Joining Channels
Very easy. In the status window, just type " /join #cam-ooc " and hit enter. If you want to join other channels, replace #cam-ooc with #camuk or #whatever. Very easy to do!
However, if you can't join the channel and your status window says "unable to join channel (need correct key)", then it means the channel is locked with a password (this is also known as a KEY). Please see the next section for more information.
Joining Locked Channels
If the channel is locked with a password, otherwise known as a channel key, you must know the key in order to get into the channel.
Type: /join #channel key Example: /join #cam-stuff xpage1
In order to get channel keys for Camarilla IRC channels, you must pm an OP in #cam-ooc to request it. For information on Setting channel Keys in your own channel, please refer to the Founders & Ops tutorial.
Warning on Auto Joining
The function "Auto Rejoin When Kicked" is NOT allowed in Cam IRC channels. You will be banned for this. Please do not use it.
Options like rejoin channels when disconnected and auto join channels when connecting, are usually fine. Please be aware, that if you get suspended from the club, you are also suspended from irc channel and will get in trouble for joining Cam irc channels; therefore, auto joining functions may cause you more grief than you'd like. I recommend not using any of them.
Because of how much trouble they cause, I'm not going to show you how to turn those on. If you need to know how to turn them off, please ask an OP in the #cam-ooc channel.
Channel Favorites
At the top left corner of mIRC, under the "File" menu, there is a row of icons. It's the third icon over, looks like a folder with #+ on it, and it's circled in the below image.
When you click that icon, a window will pop up. You can double click on a channel to open it.
Or you can enter in the channel name and click join, as circled in the image below:
You add channels to favorites by clicking on the add button:
Then another window pops up. You enter in the channel name. If there is a key, you put it under "password". Enter in whatever else you want then click "OK".
Leaving Channels
Very easy. You can either type " /leave " or in the top right corner of the screen, you can click the little x under the bigger X, as circled in the picture below. If you click the bigger X, you'll close IRC entirely.
Channel Limits
You can have about 10 channels open at one time. However, it can be a real pain to keep up with that many channels. I advise against having more than maybe 3 open at a time.
