SideBars
From Picture Tutorials
Note: This only works for the wiki's owner.
See the menu to left here, where you click on the links like "Main Page", "Email Chelle", and "Recent Changes"? That's called a sidebar. This is a little more sneaky to get to than the normal "special pages".
Let's use my wiki as an example. If you click on the link "Main Page", you will see that my wiki url is:
Remove "Main_Page" and replace it with "Mediawiki:sidebar"
This is what this page looks like for my wiki.
Click edit at the top of the page. This is what my wiki's side bar edit page looks like.
Making the links and pages in the sidebar is a tad different than making them on the pages. Look at the side by side views of the side bar and you might understand how it works from just the picture. Don't worry, more walk through is continued below.
You use one asterisk * to title your menu box (circled in red below):
You then use two asterisks ** to place your links (circled in red):
The links are "page title|link name". The | is called a "pipe" and this seperates the "page title" from the "link name". You press shift + the back slash key to get a pipe. All three references are shown with red in the below image.
This is a little hard to explain, even with the pictures. I hope this made since. Also, you may need to clear your browser's cache to see the changes you just made. For instructions on how to do this for IE (internet explorer) click here, and for Mozilla Firefox click here.
